Golfers & Tennis Elbow—has your summer caused you some discomfort?

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Many patients present to the office for low back pain and headaches, but recently we’ve noticed a trend in the number of golfers and tennis players in the office. They typically make an appointment for another symptom, but we quickly start to hear about how they have stopped their beloved activity of golf or tennis due to pain around the elbow.

Tendonitis can happen in multiple joints and can typically be treated conservatively with chiropractic adjustments to restore proper function and motion to the joint, combined with rehabilitation and massage therapy to stretch and strengthen the soft tissue around the joint. Dr. Winchester and Dr. Sneyd have worked with multiple patients to help them to get back to their favorite activities. Contact The Winchester Institute at 614-760-5555 or www.thewinchesterinstitute.com if your pain is holding you back.

The Aches and Pains of a Desk Job

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Most patients that sit at work have similar symptoms—headaches, neck tension, stiffness and pain in the upper-mid back. They also typically have structural changes on x-ray including a decreased neck curvature. This can often lead to accelerated degenerative change in the spine.

Chiropractic care, as well as focusing on flexibility and stabilization of the spine and surrounding tissues, is of utmost importance to those who sit at a desk. Ergonomics are also important, which Dr. Winchester and Dr. Sneyd stress with their patients.

A recent case study reports improvement of a 15 year old soccer player with hamstring and hip pain. The patient was seen for 8 chiropractic visits over 6 weeks, and was given some stabilization exercises, rehabilitation and orthotics throughout the course of care. After 6 weeks, the patient was pain free and back in the soccer game.

Chiropractic, supplemented with proper stabilization and rehabilitation, can not only help to relieve symptoms, but improves the function of the body to prevent future flare ups and degenerative bone and joint diseases. Tendon Rupture linked to Drugs?

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Information dating back to 1983 relates a specific class of antibiotics, the fluoroquinolones, to tendinopathy and rupture of various tendons throughout the body. While antibiotics may be necessary for certain conditions, it is important to ask your physician the side effects of medications, including musculoskeletal conditions that may be associated. Many prescription drugs have side effects such as muscle tension, cramping, or pain.

Contact The Winchester Institute at 614-760-5555 or www.thewinchesterinstitute.com for an evaluation of your musculoskeletal complaints. Dr. Sneyd and Dr. Winchester complete a thorough examination and work with medical doctors to co-manage your care so that you may heal as quickly and safely as possible.
