The Childhood Athlete

Friday, February 18th, 2011

The most beneficial weight training protocol for the child and adolescent athlete is one of moderate weight, high repetition. A recent study showed that those athletes using high repetition, moderate weight received increased muscular strength and endurance as compared to those using a low repetition, high weight regimen.

Musculoskeletal Pain During Pregnancy

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

A recent study shows that the majority of pregnant women do not change their gait to accommodate for the anatomical changes of their body during pregnancy, despite the “waddling gait” that many soon-to-be moms feel they adopt. Thus, there may be increased stress on the hip abductors, hip extensors, and ankle plantar flexor muscles during walking that can cause musculoskeletal pain during pregnancy.

At The Winchester Institute, Dr. Winchester and Dr. Sneyd know that with the changes of a pregnant woman’s body, it is important to strengthen the musculoskeletal system to prevent unnecessary pain during this time.  It is our goal to allow a mother to be as comfortable as possible by helping them to manage the many demands of pregnancy.
